Syrah/Shiraz - Syrah forms intense wines, with deep violet, nearly black color, chewy texture and richness, and often alcoholic strength, with aromas that tend to be more spicy than fruity.  Most European producers call the varietal Syrah, while Australians call it Shiraz. US and South American producers vary depending on personal choice and style. Peppered red meats, sausage, stews, and barbeque go exceptionally well with Syrah/Shiraz.

I still believe it is the simplest way to rate a wine, with its origins from grade school in the United States. A wine that I rate 90 points or more is outstanding (A), and worth buying. If I rate a wine 95 points or more (A+), it is a must buy.
